1. Adhesive
- Bonding agent used to form firm bond between subfloor and floor covering like SPC flooring.
2. Backing Layer
- Sometimes also known as based layer.
- Function as the backbone of SPC plank.
- It can be made of different material like SPC, reinforced glass fiber, etc.
3. Beveled Edge
- Angular edge of flooring which visually reduce slight imperfection of subfloor.
4. Color variation
- Slight difference of color from board-to-board due to the natural tone variation of wood.
5. Curing Time
- The period of time where strong adhesive bonding forms between SPC and substrate after installation.
- The area should be left clear and not recommended to be use at this time.
6. Dimensional Stability
- A condition of whether flooring plank or board is able to remain the same in dimension throughout service life.
7. Embossed
- Molded or carved design that is creating a pattern of raised and low relief SPC surface. Embossed SPC flooring is more realistic and is not plastic-lookalike visually.
8. Fiberglass Reinforced
- Plastic that composes of fiberglass with the aim to improve strength and durability of SPC.
9. Floating Floor
- It refers to method of flooring installation where underlayment or subfloor is not glued or attached directly to SPC floor.
- Instead, the entire set of SPC floor is joined together with adhesive or glue apply only at the joint areas and edges of planks.
10. Floor Protectors
- Placed underneath heavy objects or furniture to allow even distribution of weight, and further prevent scratches and indentations.
- Having floor protectors is one of the effective way to care & maintain your SPC flooring.
11. Full Spread
- Depending on the chosen form of SPC flooring, ‘full spread’ is the term refering to process of spreading adhesive across a large area of subfloor during installation of sheet SPC flooring.
12. Grout
- Paste-like mixture of sand, water and cement that is used to fill the gaps between joints and tiles.
13. Loose-lay
- An installation method normally seen on SPC sheet flooring.
- Adhesive or glue is not necessary for this method therefore it’s easy to move or uninstall.
14. LVF
- Stands for Luxury SPC Flooring. It’s normally found in 2 different forms, tile and plank. Namely Luxury SPC Tile (LVT) and Luxury SPC Plank (LVP).
- It’s SPC content is higher and therefore known to be a higher grade of SPC flooring compared to traditional SPC flooring.
- Urethane is normally used in wear layer for this type of flooring.
- Price is generally higher, so does the quality and durability.
15. Peel & Stick
- An installation method that does not require the application of glue or adhesive.
- A layer of adhesive comes underneath the tile or plank, making it ready to stick on once backing is peeled off.
16. Plank
- Board with width that is 3 inches or more is known as plank.
17. Refinish
- Polishing or sanding process of a previously finished surface and reapply a new layer of finish.
18. Resilient Flooring
- It is also referring to SPC sheet or SPC tile flooring. A type of flooring that is firm and resistant to stains.
19. Roller
- A heavy tool used for post-installation of SPC tile or SPC sheet flooring.
- It’s heavy weight helps to press flooring to further strengthen adhesive bond and remove air trapped underneath the floor.
20. Seam sealer
- Liquid substance that masks or fuses seamed edges or narrow indentation of SPC flooring.
21. Strip
- Width of board that is below 3 inches wide is known as strip.
22. Subfloor
- Foundation that supports any floor covering like SPC, laminate and carpet.
- Generally, subfloor must be smooth, clean and leveled.
23. Substrate
- The lining surface of your subfloor or underlayment that comes into contact with backing of SPC plank or tile.
- Surface where SPC flooring is laid onto.
24. Tongue and groove
- Joint part of one board to another where tongue is the protruding edge that fits into the corresponding groove of the board next to it.
25. Trowel
- Tool used make sure correct amount of adhesive is placed on for glue-down method during installation.
- It is to make sure correct amount of adhesive is placed on the substrate
26. Underlayment
- The layer between covering floor and subfloor.
- It gives extra support and leveling to the newly installed flooring.
27. SPC
- Synthetic, man-made material results from the combination of ethylene (elements from petroleum/ crude oil) and chlorine.
- It’s a plastic material that is also commonly known as Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC).
- SPC is widely used in various industries including automobile, construction, toys and even medical industry.
28. Waste Factor
- Used in flooring industry, referring to percentage of allowance for flooring defects like manufacturing and natural defects.
- Waste is determined according to Wood Flooring Association standards; usually it will be under 5-10% of total square footage for each purchase.
- Sometimes waste may be more than 10% based on flooring grade or layout of your room.
29. Wear Layer
- The surface layer which protects SPC flooring from scratch and scarring.
- Normally, high quality SPC or luxury SPC flooring will have thicker layer for added protection purposes.
- Thicker wear layer definitely improves the durability of flooring.

30. Wide Planks
